Xavier Sanchez, originally from Barcelona, is currently basedat Halmstad University, Sweden. He is Doctor (PhD) in Psychological Sciences by University of Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium); Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) and Associate Fellow (AFBPsS) by British Psychological Society; and registered sport psychologist (VSPN®) by Dutch Society of Sport Psychology. Xavier also possesses a post-graduate Teaching and Learning Degree in Higher Education by the University of Groningen, The Netherlands.
Xavierhas 15 years of multi-disciplinary (psychology and sport sciences) academic, working and life experience across Europe (Sweden, UK, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Spain). Xavier research interests include: Pressure performance and self-regulation (motivation and emotion); Psychological factors in climbing; Risk and extreme sport; Sport and integration in multi-cultural/ethnical societies, and Elite sport retirement and career transitions. He has published academic work in a wide-range of peer-reviewed journals in sport and exercise psychology, sport and exercise sciences, and mainstream psychology. Moreover, he is currently holding editorial board positions at different international peer-reviewed journals including International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology, International Journal of Sport Psychology, Journal of Sport Psychology(Associate Editor); and Frontiers in Psychology(sections 'Movement Science and Sport Psychology' and 'Performance Science'). Xavier is also the FEPSAC Newsletter Editor in Psychology of Sport and Exercise.
Xavier has been always involved with governing bodies: he was a founding member of the Belgian (French-speaking) Society of Sport Psychology (SBFPS); he was the first President of the European Network of Young Specialists in Sport Psychology (ENYSSP); and currently is one of the two Vice-Presidents of European Federation of Sport Psychology (FEPSAC).
